Anybody want to help a desperate Economics student??

Hello world. I would like you to join me in a project. Experiment, really. Well, maybe more of an amusement.

For Econ we watched a news report of a Canadian man who bartered his way up from one red paper clip to a house. People traded him better stuff for what he offered originally as a gimmick, but later wanted to partake of his celebrity status. This guy's website is oneredpaperclip.com. Take a look--it's a great story!

My teacher, Mr. Loeffler, said we could try the same thing for our semester project.

So here I am with my offer: a bobby pin.

What could I get for a blonde bobby pin? I know sometimes I wish I had a bobby pin for the occasional mid-day hairstyle switch. Or suppose it rains (I know, unlikely in California these days) and your bangs frizz up. I know I would do almost anything to have a bobby pin to put them up.

People get desperate. And they'll do desperate things. Like, I don't know, trade me a pen for the bobby pin. You never know.

My hope is to make good trades and work my way up into a market where what I have is actually worth something. But I've got to start small. Bobby pin small.

So I've thrown this out there. I hope to link to friends' blogs and have them see this. I'm also going to post this link to my facebook page.

Any offers??

  3. This is so fun. I will watch for the perfect item to barter for! Hayley's mustard is tempting. . . . When does your project end? When you get towards the end and are dealing with bigtime valuables :), I will put the word out on my blog, you know, to cast a wider net.

  4. Haha my econ teacher and I are going to work out the logistics of the project on Monday... apparently I have to put some effort into the analysis (shocker! real schoolwork!). But I've got a semester to go as far as I can. Which doesn't seem like a long time, but it only took one year for that guy to go from a paper clip to a house.

Btw... I have the greatest seminary teacher in the world! Thanks for putting out the word!
